I am making this enclosure for a few reasons. first off, I want to enclose the laser engraver with acrylic panels so that I can easily see what is going on but at the same time the acrylic panels will protect my eyes as well as my dogs ( who just shows up with no warning). I also wanted to have some sort of dust collection so that the dust that is created when you burn off a layer of whatever you are engraving doesn't end up all over my house. And finally I hate the smell of burnt plastic throughout the house, so I am incorporating a carbon filtration system to remove the fumes.

I decided that the filter that would require the least amount of maintenance would be a cyclone filter. I have designed the filter so that it uses a standard 591 ml pop bottle for the collection chamber. The original filter design was going to use a single 80 mm 12V computer fan to power it. When I tested this I found that it didn't have enough power to collect anything, so I redesigned the fan mount on top of the filter to use two 80mm 12V fans running side by side. I had though of just trying to stack them, but when I tried this the output was actually less than just a single fan. With the 2 fans side by side though it seems that there is enough suction to remove airborne dust and small particles, so this should work just fine.
